about

"Four Way Stop Signs" is the first song I'm releasing from my next album. This one is about the decline of small towns in America. Sometimes it's like walking through the ruins of a lost civilization. The once impressive structures - abandoned and reclaimed by time. You find old photos of a thriving little city and wonder where it all went wrong. "Four Way Stop Signs" follows a person going back to their hometown and feeling as though they've traveled back in time. You take a little tour with them as they show you how nothing lasts forever, yet some things never change.

lyrics

Sitting here inside this diner
Listening in to conversations all around
Killing time, a few more hours
And I'll be homeward bound

A smiling waitress grabs a coffee pot
Though I don't ask, she tops off mine
And if I didn't know any better
I'd think I went back in time
Did I go back in time?

There's something about the four way stop signs
Abandoned factories and brick streets
There's something about a small town
that's been slowly dying for a long long time
And won't admit defeat

See that building on the corner?
It still says Chandler family grocery store
But they closed it back when Chandler died in 1994
It's more the same next door

There's something about the four way stop signs
Abandoned factories and brick streets
There's something about a small town
that's been slowly dying for a long long time
And won't admit defeat

Nothing lasts forever
Yet some things never change
Everything is different
The world kept turning
Despite the town's clear indifference
To the cruel march of time

There's something about the four way stop signs
The empty parking lots and brick streets
A nation that is full of
small towns slowly dying for so long
That they can't see their own defeat

Mike Brunacini is an American songwriter hell-bent on crafting wistful melodic pop with retro sensibilities. His melancholic lyrics disarm with their quiet introspection while his lush, cinematic string and horn arrangements transport the listener to sepia toned landscapes. ... more
